This artwork is a one-of-a-kind vintage textile piece from DRC, handmade in the traditional technique. Vintage Kuba cloth, is a unique textile featuring geometric intricate designs that are created when pieces of raffia are hand-stitched to a larger piece of raffia. Traditionally the men harvest the raffia and the raffia cloth is then woven. Then the women then create the patterned textiles. Originally, Kuba cloth was worn as a skirt during burials. However, then Kuba was used in ceremonial dress for ritual dances and life celebrations.
